I'm not a big fan of ultra-wideangle lenses. They can result in an easy, gimmicky approach to photography, like this photo with its distorted perspective. On the other hand, this did capture, in a sort of abstract way, what interested me about the scene. This was taken with the Canon 16-35mm at the stretchy end of the zoom. Taken on a full frame DSLR, so this is "real" 16mm.

I rather enjoy the "easy and gimmicky" which appeal so much to the glib and superficial side of my nature. I just love the results obtained from the "real" 18mm aspect of my own ultra-wideangle Olympus lens.

Seriously though.....a good wide angle lens is a joy. It's great fun and rewarding. I'm surprised that Richard is taking the controversial negative track on this. This view point does exactly what he says...it captures the interesting aspect of such scenes.

@Peter - happy?

@Chucker - I'm not against them full-time, I just don't like when they are used ad nauseam. If I see another tidal pool with rocks in the foreground and a big sky, I'll be taking myself off to Dignitas, just along the lake.

Again - it's a personal preference thing
