Dolder Grand in winter

Dolder Grand in winter

The Dolder Grand, sitting haughtily above Zürich, after some fresh snow, the first really of the winter. I've no doubt the hotel will be accommodating the great and maybe not so good of the world next week as the winning bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup are "announced". It acts as a sort of dormitory/canteen for the nearby FIFA headquarters.

You seem quite negative (or is just me seeing it that way) with regards to the visitors of this hotel...
I have been eating at the Waldhaus Dolder quite a few times in earlier years when a group of 12-18 friends met for a meal after an 'open singing' at the Tonhalle. We were ALWAYS superbly treated, had excellent food and a faultless service. We also celebrated some friends Golden Wedding at the Dolder Grand and again were most surprised at the really great style and wonderful service....
This photo is a dream; love it - it really makes me homesick for Zürich... :)

Hi Kiki - no! Not negative about the hotel and the many locals that use it, sorry if I gave that impression, but I couldn't resist a jibe at FIFA. Did you ever read John Le Carre's "The Night Manager"?

A fairy tale castle with just the right amount of snow.
A perfect image

Hi Richard - outstanding pic; and I love reading about FIFA - see http://www.slate.com/id/2276128/ for a link to a Financial Times article on FIFA and the 2018 bidding process. I wonder how much was spent at the Dolder Grand?- Bill

I visited the FIFA headquarters, but missed this hotel. Looks fabulous from the outside, certainly also inside if the FIFA delegates "accept" to stay here! :-)
