Sechselaeuten - Children's Parade

The spring festival of Sechselaeuten takes place tomorrow. An opportunity for the great and the good of the Zürich guilds to strut their stuff. Today it was the Kinderumzug, the chance of the kids, 5-15 years, and as usual it was the girls that stole the show.

Sechselaeuten 2009 Kinderumzug

This young lady made me think of a youthful Joan of Arc for some reason.

Today is also music day. Blogs are full of spring images at the moment so I've picked "Frühlingstraum", a song by Schubert that has a spring theme. Not it has to be said an optimistic celebration of the joys of spring flowers and bunnies. Rather a longing for spring during darker and colder times, and a hope of love during lonely ones. But is the hope just a dream?

Music for Sunday 19th April 2009

The words are by Willhelm Müller, not perhaps Germany's Shakespeare, but Schubert excelled at creating jewels from simply expressed emotions.

The lyrics can be found here, with a singable, if not particularly faithful, English translation.

For sure hope isn't just a dream...but it can easily be torn apart...
Amazing picture...

Thanks Vanda - you are obviously an optimist like me!

You will make a tart of me yet. Why am I worried that it might not be Dietrich FIscher Dieskau singing? Who beside me is going to worry (or know, if I don't say anything? ) Why am I interested in what equipment you used to get this picture when I'm convinced I wouldn't find this one myself whatever I held in my hand. (how many entendres?)

Ham - he he. Well you know, thousands of subjects, 4gb cards, 5 fps, something has to stick. But yes, I do rather like it, even if the features are out of focus - gives it a dreamy quaity. And you needn't worry, it is of course the honeyed tones of Herr Fischer-Dieskau

Une poupée. Où trouves tu tes extraordinaires modèles, Richard ?
Schubert... Lucie chantait à tue tête "la truite" dans sa douche !
(Quel bonheur de chanter dans des petites pièces.

She doesn't look real.
Like a doll.
(she's a little bit scary)

That bloody rooster!

For the young lady, I have also a feeling of a vintage postcard!

So, this week we don't have to guess what we are listening to! Like Lucie, I have a tendency to sing "Die Forelle" now and then! Don't worry I will not do it in public! Obviously it's not Dietrich FD singing, so who is it? (We must have an open question after all.)

Peter - it is indeed Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, from the 1963 Winterreise recording with Gerald Moore. The 2nd of 7 studio recordings he made of the cycle

Can't hold your love in your arms? Never mind - perhaps today the mail coach will have something for you.

Goodness, she doesn't look modern at all - but like a painted doll. I see them in the Doll Museum in Monaco - just like her. I must read the comments...

ah I see. well I'm glad she's not real as she doesn't look it. And now I'm even more confused as I Googled Dietrich FIscher Dieskau and it's a man. Am I going crazy? This is a girl doll child. Help!

It's your birthday? I'm confused. If so, happy happy happy. Jx

Thanks Jilly - Twenty one again. She is real by the way.

Thanks Lyliane - I missed you comment earlier

Richard, I think I lost the plot reading about who was singing and assuming it was the young lady in the photo and then realising the singer you were all talking about is a baritone. I'm getting old...AM old...
# Posted By Jilly | 4/21/09 8:43 PM
JIlly - that's allowed - I can relate!
# Posted By richard | 4/21/09 10:58 PM
Cergie - just listened to the clip you mentioned - "La Truite". Fun! Never heard it like that before - and LOUD
# Posted By richard | 4/21/09 11:23 PM
I can only agree with Jilly that unless I had your word that this girl is real I would have thought she was a painted doll The features have a soft quality that your photo enhance beautifully.
When I see a photo like this I feel I know nothing about photography... sigh!

Hi Nathalie - I don't think you have much to learn about photography - Zürich is a good place to practice though - probably would be a good venue for a blogger meet.

Thanks for the answer! So his voice obviously changed over the years (like mine, thanks to the Gauloises)!

Great photo, I would hazzard a guess that it could not have been "composed" much better than this... For the record I like the black and white flowers better than the colour also... (in a previous post)...
