Cafe des Beaux Arts

I was in Paris for just one night, en route back to Zurich. I feel I need to explain this photo, something I don't normally do but it's the only one I have. On the face of it, it looks like I captured a guy at the bar staring at the waitress passing by. But actually it was just the characteristic atmosphere that appealed to me. Someone stands at the bar and is lost in thought. The waitress busies herself back and forth with the other customers. Drinks wait appealingly behind the comptoir. I sit and steal pictures from my seat. Brasserie life

A perfect Paris atmosphere! I wish I would have been able to take this one!

I like the ambiguity in the shot - a decisive moment, for sure

.........quite so, Richard. The Bar Fly feels very comfortable with the elements of this one. The fixed and the static. The intensely sharp focus and the blurrred. The moody thought that generates a certain cerebral energy for the picture and expresses the scene.

It is good to read your explanation. helpful to me - I've found sometimes when I get home, look at a photograph on the screen, that it is saying something quite different to what I saw! Your words explain this so well. Things aren't always what they seem.

Bonjour Richard,

To be honest to be really honest I didn't have the idea that the man was staing at the waitress. His glance is lost in space in front of him. At opposite I felt same your feeling and the photo well tell it.
