Zurichsee sculptures

This guy makes these intricately balanced sculptures down by the Zurich lakeside. They are transient of course. The fact that some of them survive for so long is in itself amazing. These ones are quite basic compared with others that I've seen him do

Richard this is fascinating. Will you please please try and take other photos of his more achieved creations and post them somewhere so I can see them?

Does he himself photograph his work? Or maybe for him it is the transient nature that appeals and he's rather not "stop" time. It also reminds me of the little stone piles that one comes upon in the mountains. Do they have a name in English? Or in German?

@z - I know in Scotand there is a tendency to build little "cairns" to act as waymarkes or whatever. However these are not precariously balanced, just a heap of stones. They are also frowned upon, because people just keeping adding to them making the wildrness look less "un-man-made" every day. Also a lot of mountain safety experts think that if you start to rely on waymarkers like this then you shouldn't be there in the first placed!

I conclude he is using a resin glue to cement the smaller rounded stones. fun to see them stnading. Quite a surprise, I'm sure.

Have neglected your site since a couple of days. I regret it. Always amazing photos.

I guess most of us would get crazy, trying to put these stones on top of each other.

@chuckeroon - nope - they are all freestanding. I'll show you me knocking one over next time ;)

@peter - what! How could you! Seriously though I quite often visits other sites and don't leave comments. Often I can't think of anything to say, or it's all been said and I don't like to just leave a comment to say "I've been here"

I've taken quite a fewl pictures of these stone sculptures myself, but haven't gotten around to posting them. Maybe I'll put one up one of these days...

That's really cool. I remember seeing one of these people at Lake Constance when I still lived there and I still can't figure out how they do it!
