Yes, I appreciate having the drinking fountains all over the place.

The (seemingly?) non-horizontal water level unsettles me. It's interesting how that one aspect overwhelms everything for me.

@z - I hadn't really spotted that - guess it comes from me "knowing" that the fountain is circular although the image doesn't show it

The non horizontal aspect didn't really worry me initially, I got caught up in the soft shine of the metal, in the movement of the water, the refreshing idea of a fountain, tried to imagine its size, etc

Z's right, BUT I was focussed more on the tricky capture of the metal and the water. Must have been a "difficult" exposure call. I run with Nathalie.

FYI and tks for the recent visit....buses in London have gone from "iffy" to b'*#xx marvelous under Ken. I can guess your Isleworth route on foot. Probably still best that now....but not because of unreliable buses. I have a pass and often I am moved to declare that I had a limousine service hopping form bus to bus, or bus to train. There are now a lot of mythes out there about poor transport. Most are outdated or based on specific accidental happenings. Most serious commentators will say that things actually quite good: and certainly in the Capital. The Gov is pumping millions a year into the whole system nationwide....but that's not well known. You seem not to have heard about London's new Bendy Buses....egg all over the face of Daimler Benz.......the buses suddenly started to explode and burst into flames!!!!!

@z and chucker - my rule of thumb with digital is to underxpose everything by at least one stop unless I'm measuring exposure manually. If I'm doing that it all depends, but highlights are crucial. You can always rescue the shadows, but overexpose and you've lost it and colours are washed out. This mainly applies to RAW files however. In this image, I think I boobed a bit as the bright highlight in the fish has "gone"

Yup, still fixated on the bent level. I feel so anal retentive. Moving on to the under-exposure thing, I've been doing that more and more myself over the last month. Actually, I'm finding that in the mountains, I'm in severe need of light blocking filters for certain shots. My polarized light filter just doesn't cut enough light.

@z - I do have some neutral density filters, but I've never had to use them so far in normal situations (unless I just want a really long exposure time). What camera are you using?

Thought I left a comment here yesterday, but I don't see it so I'll repeat the info. I'm using a Lumix FZ7 (all my camera info is at the bottom of my webpage). I have to look through my Alp shots to make sure I was using the correct metering mode and things like that, I'm probably doing something stupid. I'm learning a lot about using the camera as I'm now taking photos everyday and "playing" with it.

@z - the FZ7 has all the features I'd expect you to need to combat challenging lighting. I'm assuming you'd be using it in AE or TE modes. It might get all confused in one of it's idiot püroof modes. Only other thing with v high brighteness is the max shutter speed of 1/2000, but that would only be a problem if you were also using high sensitivities (400ISO for exmaple)
